There are many activities to choose from in Pucon. The list below includes some of the most popular with guests at PKH, although please remember that we do not offer most of them directly from the hostel. If you are interested in any of the activities listed here, let us know. We can match you up with another outfitter in the area. Pucon Kayak Hostel partners with several local (and reputable) companies to provide our guests with these services at special rates. That means you save time and money as long as you notify us in advance when possible.

Not sure what to do? Send us an email and we will help you decide. We’ve been living and working in Pucon for more than 10 years and hosting guests for almost as long. We’ve collected a lot of valuable information and we’re happy to share our experiences with you and make recommendations based on your own agenda and preferences.

FLY FISHING

Pucon Kayak Hostel is on the Trancura River, just one of many rivers in our immediate vicinity with great fishing opportunities. King Salmon find their way here alllll the way back here in an annual pilgrimage from the Pacific Ocean during the first few months of the year. You can also try your luck with the resident trout which are plentiful. Need more? We run guided fly fishing trips to several secret spots locally, regionally, and in Patagonia. Send us an email for more details.

………

YOGA

Pucon Kayak Hostel hosts numerous yoga instructors throughout the season, who lead classes appropriate for all ages and ability levels in the dome on our property or somewhere outside. We also run shuttles to the yoga studio in Pucon, a beautiful new space that offers classes in Spanish several times a week during peak summer months for around $10 USD.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

Pucon Kayak Hostel lies in the middle of a Lonely Planet featured mountain bike loop. Start and finish the loop from your base.

………

HOT SPRINGS

The hot springs just twenty minutes from Pucon Kayak Hostel is a must trip during your visit. Note- Pucon has a late night life so it is fine to take off at 1:00 am and the hotsprings be open. Great cold rainy day activity.

………

CANYONEERING

The same creeks you kayak have different sections targeted for canyoneering and canopy tours. Yes, we support these eco-friendly businesses that we hope supports keeping Chile Rivers flowing.

………

CANOPY TOURS

Pucón canopy tours offer a unique perspective of the breathtaking indigenous forests that surround Pukón Kayak Hostel. Because you fly through the air rather than walk on forest floors, canopy tours are considered one of the most eco-friendly ways to experience our forest ecology. What better way to see Pucón’s flora and fauna than with a bird’s eye view?

SPANISH LANGUAGE LESSONS

If you are traveling in Chile then you probably are interested in improving your Spanish skills. You can arrange daily Spanish classes to help get you to the next level of fluency.

………

MAPUCHE VILLAGES

The indigenous Mapuche Indians own much of the land in our favorite places to recreate and kayak. In the region surrounding Pucon there are several Mapuche villages where visitors can take tours, attend special events hosted throughout the year, or shop in markets full of handmade crafts and textiles – for which the Mapuche have been well known for centuries. As a tourist, your business helps financially support these communities, were you can still observe ox-drawn carts and cabelleros working the land. You are encouraged to be friendly, interact, and learn.

………

VOLUNTEER PROJECTS

We recommend two volunteer projects. ChileRivers.org is an eco-tourism project designed to promote tourism to Chile Rivers. Your participation with this project will help promote more tourism to great destinations and build a data base for future kayak travelers. There is also an all girls orphanage in Pucon. Sharing gifts of clothing and food is always a great way to help these children.

………

SHOPPING

Arts and crafts are abundant in Pucon, a town known for great fashion and artisan jewelry.

………

GAMBLING

Yes, Pucon has a casino with black jack, slots, and other table games. While we recommend saving your money for shuttle fees (unless you are card shark), the Casino does bring a lot of tourism to the area and it is worth visiting if you’re into that sort of thing.

………

DANCING

Salsa and Tango classes are availble in the town of Pucon. It’s a great way to meet locals and practice your Spanish, so don’t be shy! There are also plenty of unstructured dancing opportunities at the local discos – which are packed almost every night in summer. Spending at least one night at Mamas y Tapas is an experience we highly recommend, though expect to show up no earlier than midnight and dance your way to sunrise (but more on that below).

………

THERE’S MORE

ATV tours, motorcycle tours, volcano skiing, lake skiing, wine tasting, golf, putt-putt, go-carts, circus, bungee, lake tours, plane rides (aerial scouting), camping, and who knows what else. If you do something that didn’t make our list, let us know!
