A Warm Welcome from Pucón Kayak Hostel

Hello and Bienvenidos! If you’re new to Pucón Kayak Hostel (PKH), you may be wondering what exactly we are. The short answer: We are a beautiful slice of South American heaven in the heart of Chile’s Rivers and Lakes District, just outside the quaint town of Pucón — a picturesque tourist destination and outdoor recreation paradise. The long answer: We are and represent so much more than our name implies. PKH is a special place. We take pride in welcoming guests from all over the world, and we offer many services in addition to lodging and kayaking (although kayaking is one of our core areas of expertise and high on our list of favorite things ever).

Owner David Hughes began building the dream kayaker’s destination by hiring one of Chile’s finest architects to build the quincho. Quinchos are part of the Chilean culture designed specifically for social events.

For kayakers and river-lovers, Pucón Kayak Hostel is the epicenter of logistics planning and post-river story swapping in Southern Chile. PKH is perfectly located on the Rio Trancura, at the take-out for the Class IV upper section which doubles as the put-in for the easier Class II-III Lower Trancura. We are just a few minutes outside the town of Pucón, and easily accessible by bus, taxi, bike, or even foot. We host international travelers in unique accommodations that include a treehouse dormitory, hosteria, gypsy wagons, camping platforms, and eco-friendly domes. Communal space is abundant indoors and out. Centered around an open-air quincho designed by a master Chilean craftsman and architect, the campus at Pucón Kayak Hostel includes a movie dome, classroom, treetop shower, soccer field, and of course, river access. Whether you are interested in a day-long river adventure of any kind, are ready to learn how to roll a kayak, or you are an experienced kayaker looking for rivers to run and new moves to try out – we are just the place for you.

We are the unofficial Chilean gateway for anyone who wants adventure. Looking to rent gear, hop on a shuttle, get beta, take lessons, or sleep next to a river? We’ve got you covered. Want to relax, take a yoga class, read a good book, learn Spanish, take a trek in the Andes Mountains, spend the day on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP), and/or meditate to the sounds of the river? You’ve come to the right place. Our location makes us the perfect spot for just about any activity you could want to do. Use us as a base for trips to the north or south of the country (we are just over an hours drive from Temuco airport and within about a day’s travel from the best rivers in either direction). Stay with us while you explore Pucón – we’ll even help if you want. We’ve lived here for almost ten years and while we certainly have acquired a great deal of knowledge and experience – new secrets are revealed to us all the time. So stay a week or stay for three-months — you’ll meet new people, learn new skills, and become a part of our lovely community of locals and travelers alike — regardless of how long you visit.
