Pucon Kayak Hostel was destined to be a melting pot for groups from the beginning. When owner David Hughes discovered PKH in 2007, it was because he sought the perfect whitewater river base for New River Academy – his traveling high-school for student kayakers. It worked so well as the school’s South American headquarters, David quickly realized it could provide the same benefits for other groups, too. Traveling in Chile is tricky – especially for kayakers. David and his school spent years figuring out how to manage equipment, food, lodging, transportation, and river access issues. He knew if he could offer a single-source solution for other groups with similar needs, it would be a win for everyone.
Today, every aspect of the hostel is designed for groups. Communal hangouts, transportation, and family-style meals easily accommodate large numbers without losing any sense of community or intimacy. As an additional incentive to help clubs, schools, friends, and businesses make their Chile trip a reality, PKH provides discounts based on the total number in each group. To date, PKH has hosted, coached, guided, and provided accommodations to many of the best kayakers and kayak schools in the world. Our happy customers include the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC), Aquabatics, World Class Kayak Academy, The Alzar School, H2O Dreams, River Gypsies, the Whitewater Grand Prix, Patagonia Study Abroad, New River Academy, NOC Youth Paddle Team, Chicago Whitewater Association, Ollie Grau (Former Freestyle World Champion and Owner of Spade Kayaks), Valley Mill Kayak School, eNRG Kayak School (Sam Drevo), Billy Harris, Clay Wright, and many, many others.
